MDS Training Workshops Part I and II

MDS Part I Workshop - This is perfect for new MDS Nurses, new Administrators and AIT's to increase their knowledge on how the federally mandated resident assessment tool determines reimbursement and monitors national quality of care. This two day in person MDS Basic Part I Workshop is designed for new MDS Coordinators and interdisciplinary team members who are looking to strengthen their knowledge, confidence and competence in the MDS process.  Topics covered: 

  • Introduction to the RAI Process
  • Role of the MDS in the Long Term Care Survey Process (LTCSP)
  • Line-by-line coding instructions for crucial sections typically done by the MDSC where instructions can be confusing: Interview Skills, MDS Sections B, GG, H,I, J, M, N, O, and P. (Note: Only the specified MDS sections will be covered.)
  • Care Area Assessments (CAA) and Care Planning
  • OBRA Scheduling

MDS Part II Workshop - Virtual - This two-day MDS Basic Part II workshop is designed for MDS Coordinators with at least six weeks of experience who are ready to build on their foundational knowledge.  Participants will deepen their understanding of MDS coding and explore how accurate coding impacts quality measures, reimbursement and resident outcomes.  Topics covered:

  • Quality Measurement in a Nursing Facility
  • Using the MDS-based QM Manual to interpret and facility and resident level QM reports
  • Five-Star Rating System
  • SNF Value Based Purchasing
  • SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP)
  • Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) and PPS Scheduling
  • Medicare in a SNF
  • Kansas:  MDS role in Medicaid payment

Continuing Education Credit:

Administrators - Each course offering is approved for 13 continuing education clock hours for Adult Care Home Administrators by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) HOC Long-Term Sponsorship number: LTS-A0001.

Operators - Each course offering is approved for 13 continuing education clock hours for Adult Care Home Operators in the core are of Administration by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) HOC Long-Term Sponsorship number: LTS-A0001.

Nurses - The Kansas Health Care Association is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Each offering is approved for 13 contact hours applicable for RN and LPN re-licensure. (KSBN LT0030-0338).

Dietary - Each course is approved for 13 continuing education hours for Kansas Licensed Dieticians by the Kansas Department of Aging an Disability Services Health Occupations Credentialing.  Sponsorship LTS-D002

Social Workers - The Kansas Health Care Association is approved as a provider of continuing education by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Board . Each offering is approved for 13 continuing education hours for Social Workers. (KSBSB 17-006).
