Dementia Capable Care: Supporting Individuals Across the Journey

This course provides essential tools for delivering person-centered care to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to changes across all stages of cognitive decline, support communication, and address distressed behaviors with compassion. The training also introduces practical intervention strategies, including the CPI Crisis Development Modelâ„ , to effectively respond to escalating situations while promoting dignity and quality of life.  Attending this full day course will earn attendees the Dementia Capable Care Specialist (DCCS) Credential.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the progression of dementia across early, middle, late, and end stages
  • Identify changes in cognitive levels and their impact on daily functioning
  • Recognize and interpret distressed behaviors as expressions of unmet needs
  • Apply observation, reporting, and assessment techniques to support care planning
  • Implement person-centered communication strategies tailored to cognitive ability
  • Identify precipitating factors and apply appropriate behavioral interventions
  • Utilize the CPI Crisis Development Modelâ„  to safely respond to crisis behaviors
  • Support families and loved ones throughout the dementia care journey
